Capcom didn’t expect the tremendously negative reaction from Devil May Cry fans when plans were announced to make DMC4 available on the Xbox 360 and PC, in addition to the PS3. Fans accused Capcom of being disloyal to Sony and putting profits above all else. But the story continues in another surprising twist as Capcom says that two other popular titles, which are exclusive to the Xbox 360, will not be ported over to the PS3 — Dead Rising and Lost Planet.
The news was released when posters on Capcom’s official forum asked the question, "When is the PS3 getting Lost Planet and Dead Rising?" Christian Svensson, the head of research and development at Capcom, responded, "The answer is Dead Rising and Lost Planet: Extreme Condition are not slated to appear on Wii or PS3 as far as current plans go. The reasons for this are quite convoluted and I’m bound by NDAs (non-disclosure agreement) on these matters so I can’t divulge why this is the situation."
This latest development shows that Capcom is further distancing themselves from Sony and moving closer to the Microsoft camp in order to maximize its potential customer base in order to draw in more profits for the company. But Capcom’s brazen move to exclude the PS3 from two of its most popular titles indicates that the honeymoon is over between Sony and Capcom, and that their once exclusive relationship is over with.
PlayStation 3 owners shouldn’t be too upset over the news, though — there are still the inevitable sequels to both games that might be released on both Xbox 360 and PS3.
