Some game companies would be happy to have a nice budget of $40 million to spend on game development.
But to put things in perspective and show you how the big boys play, Nintendo spent that much money in the first half of 2007 just on advertising alone, according to gamesindustry.biz.
Considering the huge moneybags that Nintendo is hauling around due to the phenomenal success of their DS and Wii, dropping $40 mill on ads is probably just chump change to Mario and Company.
Carmmie Dunaway, Nintendo’s newly appointed VP of sales and marketing remarked on the incredible reach Nintendo has on the public. "I’ve seen the excitement on my nine-year-old son’s face when he’s playing a Pokemon game on his DS. Then I see my mom, who’s in her 70’s, having fun playing Wii bowling."
The combination of two of the hottest gaming products on the market with dedicated advertising has surely brought windfall profits to Nintendo. The question some are asking is whether Nintendo can keep this furious pace up.
