UPDATE: According to a NeoGAF translation of a Spanish interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo is planning to reveal a brand new Super Mario game for Wii U at this year’s E3 in June. The translator goes on to say that the new game will combine the TV screen and the tablet screen to create an all-new Mario experience.
Now, I’m no mathematician, but it’s not a stretch to put two and two together and get four – Super Mario 4.We’ll see when E3 2012 kicks off June 4.
The original story is below:
Nintendo could be following in Capcom and Sega’s footsteps and taking their big star back to his roots.
On April 3, the company registered supermario4.com, leaving many to wonder just what this site is all about. At the moment, entering that address takes you to Nintendo.com’s region select screen, but that doesn’t mean that can’t change in the future.
Coupling this news with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata’s mentioning of a new 2D Mario side-scroller in the works, we could be seeing the fourth installment in the core Super Mario Bros line of games soon enough. No sports, no galaxies, no New Super Mario Bros, just plain old Super Mario Brothers 4. It’s also possible that Nintendo just registered that domain because they don’t want anyone else doing it, be it fan-made game or something else.
The latter is boring, so I will be joining the “ZOMG SUPER MARIO 4 I HOPE IT’S RETRO LIKE MEGA MAN 9 AND 10 WHOA!!!!!” camp. Feel free to speculate with me.
