Reuters reports that Nintendo became Japan’s second most valuable company behind Toyota Motor Corp. this week. From a gamer’s perspective, this is a perfect example of Nintendo’s success in today’s consumer market and that the Wii and DS’ popularity continues to explode throughout the world.
Despite not having an official presence at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, numerous companies were there to support Nintendo and its games, according to analyst Hiroshi Kamide. Kamide said that during this holiday season, Nintendo’s products will be pretty darn successful.
"At the Tokyo Game Show last week, Nintendo wasn’t there officially. But there were a lot of software companies who are dedicating software to Nintendo platforms… I think it’s reasonable to think that this Christmas Nintendo[‘s] strategy of catering to both core and casual gaming markets will succeed again."
Nintendo’s market value is currently up to 8.39 trillion yen, which surpassed former second place holder Canon Inc. However, Toyota’s market value is at a stunning 24 trillion yen, but, hey, this is what you have to do to become the world’s most profitable automaker.
So here’s my hat off to Nintendo! Seriously, I did remove my hat there for a moment.
