Ninja Theory, the folks behind the underrated Heavenly Sword are getting ready to release Enslaved: Odyssey to the West in a matter of weeks. Their latest developer diary shows how important character is to the wonderfully colorful universe of Enslaved.

Andy Serkis is known to most as the man behind Gollum in the Lord of the Rings films. Serkis feels extremely comfortable in a skintight motion capture suit, and according to the above video, makes others feel the same way. He is the best in the industry when it comes to pretending to be a digitally created person, and Ninja Theory has him hired on as a full time employee.

The diary also takes time to discuss Alex Garland, screenplay writer and novelist, who worked with Ninja Theory for two years to get the story of Enslaved to not be terrible. Garland is known for writing the films 28 Days Later, Sunshine and The Beach among others.

Ninja Theory has an impressive team backing them up, and their previous efforts certainly allow for some reasonable expectations.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West releases on October 5th.
