Left 4 Dead demo tomorrow, pre-load today

Category: Industry, Posted: 11/06/2008 at 10:21PM EST by Sean Pincombe, Staff Writer

Tomorrow will see the release of the Left 4 Dead demo on Steam for those users who have pre-ordered the full game. For those of you who have pre-ordered Left 4 Dead on Steam, the demo can now be pre-loaded so you can access it as soon as it is unlocked tomorrow.

Everyone else will have to wait for the 11th before the demo is publicly launched on Steam and Xbox Live.

The demo will run from the 6th to the 18th, where upon it will conclude when Left 4 Dead is finally released. It seems a bit odd to have the demo no longer be available once the game comes out, but Valve must be hoping that their advertising, coupled with their reputation and word of mouth of customers will be enough to sell the game.

For all the 360 players it's not just the PC users who are getting special treats. The 360 demo will have split screen, so you'll be able to play with one of your friends if you don't want to go online.

Left 4 Dead will be released in NA on Nov 18 and in EU on Nov 21 for both PC and 360. All Steam users will be able to get the game on Nov 18.

I think their reasoning for closing the demo is that they are afraid that people will just continue to play the demo and not buy the game. Thats actually what me and a few of my friends did with BFBC until we got bored of it and didnt care for buying the game anymore

The first thing I did this morning was put my code into Xbox Live and proceeded to play a bit of the story in single player. The gameplay was solid, and the video when the demo started up was awesome.

I think the demo is more of a dry-run than an actual "demo" demo

You have no security for your Steam and email accounts. the money you will have spent on any game will be at the mercy of extremely young, immature and ruthless people anywhere in the world. The Steam group will not protect you; you're account and its security is totally your responsibility.

Beware Steam users, you very well may lose all the games you invested in if and when your steam account gets hijacked. You say, "Oh, that won't happen to me". I thought that also until last month when my Steam account got hijacked twice in two weeks time. The Steam people came back at me like I was the culprit and told me "if your account gets hijacked one more time, we will disable it permanently. The security of your computer and your Steam account information is your responsibility." What do you think will happen when you put all your information out there in their cloud; Valve and Steam are not going to protect you or the money you have spent on any game bought through their service.

Whoa, I've spent hundreds of dollars on games for that account. I can't seem to protect it because somehow through Steam a nefarious user can acquire the passwords of your Steam account as well as your email account AT WILL, and I mean at will. My own case in point is an extremely frustrating example of how a normal user can be abused and violated by using Steam. I will be posting article's on this very subject as soon as my lawyers tell me I will be safe from the wraith of Steam and Valve by publishing these very real dissents to not using their products and the products of 3rd party developers through their service. The security of your credit card, personal information, your identity and the loss of hundreds of dollars worth of games is at stake from using Steam. Don't do it. Find another way.

Bevar: First of all, what does this have to do with Left 4 Dead ( you should have posted this on the forums). Secondly, Steam support is very helpful, and I've never known them to leave someone out in the cold.

Maybe because you haven't preordered?

Bevar, there is no way people can hack your account unless your password reset is too easy or your password is guessable. Try changing both of those to be more difficult, and I suggest a password with numbers.
