Are you tired of the performance of Internet Explorer when you're doing your online surfing? Never fear, you can always get better performance by upgrading.
No, we're not talking about Google's Chrome. What we're talking about is the PS3 firmware update--version 2.5.
According to Sony, the new update will bring Flash 9 support and increase the Javascript speed on the PS3 to almost 3 times more then before. End result of all this improvement? Surfing with your PS3 is faster than using Internet Explorer 7 in Javascript performance.
We wouldn't throw our computers out the window just yet because you'll still be limited to how fast you can type using the PS3's virtual keyboard. You may surf faster you probably won't type faster.
Firmware 2.5 will also have the Ad-Hoc Party feature for the PSP that will allow PSP gamers to use the PS3 as a proxy-matching server for playing online games. But this ability will not be a available for owners of the 20GB PS3 because of the lack of onboard wireless networking on the machine.

No thanks, I have Firefox.

Lol Chrome FTW.
Now if only my PS3 wouldn't crash my router when I'm not playing a game...
sounds to good to be true
Oh wow faster than IE.... thats not really an achievement now is it? Firefox FTW!
I don't have any problems with it and I use both. Niehter is faster than the other, imo. But, this is a moot point.
Doesn't really surprised me, netfront is very light weight and secure. It was designed to work on such small devices like your smartphone or pda, so a beefy console like the ps3 should make most of this technology.
Firefox has always been fast and reliable, I'd rather use a browser that was built on mozilla technology than a browser that was built on top of IE, which only seems to have made it slower.
We aren't comparing PS3 and Firefox here fellas. The idea is that the CONSOLE'S BROWSER is faster than IE7.
I know, I'm just comparing it to firefox because if netfront was faster than firefox it would be a bigger achievement than if it beat crappy old IE7 (which is slower than ie6, among many other browsers).
Sweet, now I can surf the web all awesomely fast. It's just the page gets all weird on the PS3.
The news about the Ad-hock system is awesome.
