Silicon Knights' head honcho Denis Dyack never seems to be at a loss for words about any topic relating to the videogame industry. This is especially true of his team's latest game, Too Human, which is shaping up to be one big ball of controversy.
Already, the company is embroiled in a legal battle with Epic Games over the Too Human engine, and Dyack himself has started a small war with the NeoGAF message boards over the quality of the game.
His latest jab at select members of the gaming community came yesterday in an interview with The Official Xbox Magazine UK, when he explained that the people who don't like the game most likely just don't get its innovative gameplay and apparently complex themes. He said:
"I think we took for granted how innovative the game was. First of all, the demo got a tremendous amount of attention. We've had over a million downloads, the reception has been by and large extremely positive.
But what we're also seeing is for the people who don't like it, generally just don't get it. And it's because we've created something so innovative and different. It's ironic, it just shows that human nature of if you don't understand something, you immediately attack it. It's pretty interesting in that regard."
He also alludes to a period of learning that many gamers might undergo while playing Too Human, after which, he expects the game to just "click."
"Once people understand it, you can almost see it click with them. Once they stop trying to fight the camera. As soon as you hear someone say the controls are really simple or the gameplay is not very deep, that's absolutely not true. Too Human is extremely, deceptively deep. Once that stuff clicks, those are the people that are going round telling ten other friends. I guess the word of mouth for Too Human is really going to carry it to ground now."
I, for one, am looking forward to delving deeper into Too Human. From what I've played thus far, it is not nearly as horrible as some are making it out to be.

Right. It can't be that the game sucks. Oh no. It has to be that nobody is smart enough to understand the genius developer. Poor Dyack. So misunderstood.
I'll go ahead and cross-post my comment to the similarly titled blurb on Joystiq. It came from my frustrating experience with the demo.
Oh, I get it. I get that I can't aim or look at anything very well because you decided to use the right stick to swing a frigging sword. I get that you tried to compensate for this huge misstep by having the game decide what I want to shoot at, instead of me. I get that the game has been in development so long that you didn't account for the proper dual-stick setup every single worthwhile 3rd-person 3D action game since then has adopted for a *reason*.
Sounds like the LAIR excuse all over again.
Oh jeez, any game developer using this excuse to his/her critics loses a lot of credit with me
You know what that almost sounds like? "If you don't like the game, you obviously suck at playing it. Stop sucking and you'll like it..." Just in nicer words.
Time for Denis to go away................
Thats nice Denis now go away for 10 years and work on Too Human 2 : the fail continues
Man... You know, Denis Dyack has created some of my favorite games in the past. Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. That's all i can say on the matter, since I haven't played this game. I can't imagine it can suck so badly, given the level of dedication and care he and his team have put forth in their previous ventures.
wow I don't stink at playing the the game and I still don't like it.
you like it or you hate it.
and i hate it
so get over yourself.
just because your game stinks do not take out on the gamer and quit crying.
ps. understand this i played it for 10 hours and got into it and it still stinks.
10 years and it still stinks
