Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary creator of Mario, Donkey Kong, and Zelda, has finally shared the secret ingredient that has made his games so successful; improving people instead of technology.
According to Miyamoto, designers today are too obsessed with having their games run on the newest engine and capturing the attention of players with ultra-realistic graphics. According to Miyamoto, they should, instead, be thinking "about things such as health or mental improvement, rather than technology itself." Humans, he thinks, should be the inspiration for games, not high resolution or polygon count.
Miyamoto has a point here. It seems today that developers care only for the graphics they output. Looking at Miyamoto's titles, however, we can see that, even though his games do not necessarily have the best graphics out there, they still have a phenomenal fan base. Perhaps it's time for Microsoft and Sony to take lessons from their rival.

Eh, it's the same old song and dance...
No, devs shouldn't focus on graphics alone, but when they are using them to create a complete and immersive experience, it doesn't hurt to actually consider all aspects of the game, including graphics.
Nintendo as a whole is starting to really turn me off. They don't seem to even be a part of the videogame industry anymore. Rather than legitimizing the craft (the artform?) by creating the highest quality products, the company is preaching a dumbed-down, "TOYS-for-all-ages" approach to fattening their wallet.
"Expanding the market," as Nintendo calls is, is like taking a fine steak house and turning it into 30 McDonald's "restaurants."
coming from a man associated with the wii
Miyamoto really has no credibility on gaming as far as I'm concerned.
The video game industry is still a business and Nintendo are still making A LOT of money. They've admitted it won't appease the purists, but the fact is that it happens in every industry.
The car industry is a prime example of that.
They have to spin what they say to fit what they have to sell. Miyamoto is above the PR department, but even he needs to find ways to use what he has to work with to best advantage. Cutting-edge display technology is out. The advantages of the Wii lie elsewhere. He's a very creative man, and I think he's looking for the best way to exploit them.
Personally, I have no interest in videogames that make me work as hard physically as similar real-life events would. I also have zero interest in using my consoles as treadmills or exercycles. If that's the future of the Wii, I'll be sorely disappointed.
So are you saying that Nintendo is turning into Hyundai, southAussie?
That comming from the man whos turning gaming into a shell of it's former self no thanks Miyamoto your E3 show said all I need to know on Nintendo today and no thanks.

Hahahahahahaaha......True
I enjoy health and mental improvment as much as the next guy... But blowing the crap out of someone in HD is nice every now and then too.
