Rumors have been floating around that Infinity Ward, makers of the popular Call of Duty series, are planning a sci-fi shooter as their next project. According to the latest issue of Xbox World 360, the studio's sci-fi project is "definitely" happening. "The net is awash with rumour mongering that Infinity Ward are beavering away on a brand new sci-fi shooter," says the mag. "However, we can confirm that it is definitely happening."
Speaking on its official website blog recently, the developer itself revealed plans of possibly exploring new IP.
"We're excited to announce that in the recent months we have decided to reup on our contract with Activision publishing," the developer said in the post. "The recently renegotiated deal may not seem like much of an impact from the outside perspective, but it has laid the ground work and kick started our future project, as well as the possibility of a unique new IP by Infinity Ward, that we'll have complete control over.
We're excited to be working on our next project, but it's going to be quite a while before I can share any details on exactly what that project is."
It would be great to see a new IP come out of Infinity Ward, but do you think a futuristic Call of Duty game could work?

Yes, i think it could.
who said anything about futuristic? scifi =/= future
That's true. Star Wars wasn't in the future. Sounds awesome.
Hologram of duty?
Well, I thought that CoD4 wasn't going to work and it was the best CoD game yet imho. This could be awesome, especially since its made by IW, if treyarch were to make it I would be sceptical.
Cool, should be interesting to follow this as new details emerge.
