Daily Q: Are there genres you avoid at all costs?

Category: Features, Posted: 07/01/2008 at 03:08PM CDT by Eddie Inzauto, Senior Editor

Daily QEveryone has different tastes. From cars to clothes to food and drink to members of the opposite sex, we all have our likes and dislikes.

When it comes to videogames, we have a wide variety of genres to choose from. Some of them tickle our fancies more than others, and some do absolutely nothing to excite us, but which are the types of games that we absolutely despise? That's today's Q.

What type of game do you avoid at all costs?

I thought about this for a while, and I'm going to have to go with anything that comes to the mobile phone platform. Yeah, I avoid those, even with their phenomenal gameplay and audio/visual presentation.

Yuck. (Can that be my One Word Review?)

I tend to avoid fighting games. I have just never gotten into them, even (gasp!) Super Smash Brothers.

Whatever genre games like Animal Crossing fall into.

Sports games. nuff said.

Posted by snake0iler on 07/01/2008 at 04:26PM

American sports games, Baseball, Basketball and american football.

Posted by snake0iler on 07/01/2008 at 04:27PM

OH, and any game based on a movie!

Posted by El on 07/01/2008 at 05:57PM

Sports, unless they're scifi deathmatch sports like Unreal Tournament.

Baseball games. I TRIED getting into it but, i lose attention after the third inning.

Posted by JSnake on 07/01/2008 at 07:35PM

Sports. Unless they're Mario Sports games.

Sports games as well.
I don't necessarily go out of my way to avoid them at all costs, but I don't play them often, and certainly don't buy them. The last "sports" game I bought was NBA Street 2. Cuz it was just damn fun. A sports game only in the sense that it was sorta like basketball....but awesome.

Sports... But I also enjoy the Mario Sports Series...

Wow, I'm glad we're so diverse here at GN. Haha

Posted by Imonfire on 07/01/2008 at 09:25PM

Sports, fighting games and Turn-based games.

Posted by El on 07/01/2008 at 10:29PM

Turn-based games are A-okay in my opinion. At least, as long as they involve tactics. Think less like gameboy, more like Fallout.

Posted by Imonfire on 07/01/2008 at 11:38PM

I must live under a rock 'cause I've never played any of the Fallouts =D.

Posted by jambo on 07/02/2008 at 12:35AM

Sorry Eddie, but sports =P

Sports and shooters that don't involve magic or demons. Oddly specific I know, but very true.

Posted by sig220 on 07/02/2008 at 12:55AM

point, and click games, sports, and turn based.

Posted by sig220 on 07/02/2008 at 12:55AM

ohh, and racing.

Posted by Sersoft.corp on 07/02/2008 at 02:07AM

Racing games are awesome dude! Although I only play FPS games, Arcade games like mario, GTA, and games from the Need for Speed series...

Posted by Cobra951 on 07/02/2008 at 08:21AM

Fighting games and sports games.

Posted by Archem on 07/02/2008 at 12:58PM

"Real" sports (in other words, anything with a year after it, or something without zany power moves or skateboards), simulators (particularly driving ones), and most fighting games (Soul Calibur, Smash Bros., and Dead or Alive being the only exceptions).

Posted by Dr Stupid on 07/02/2008 at 04:59PM

Sports. The only two that ever stole some of my time were Mario Smash football and Burnout 2, but even that was because of the soundtrack to it.

Posted by ninjalegend on 07/02/2008 at 05:58PM

Mascot games. I don't want to play as a personified animal of some kind, or a plummer for that matter (galaxy was ok). Most FPS games. ENOUGH ALREADY! Quirky Japanese games. I just don't get it. Why the F do bullets not hurt a creature, but a sword is deadly? That's not visionary, that's stupid. Or Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles? Need I say more. Mini games. How does a lazy developer become wealthy? You guessed it. Mini games. The sims anything. I have a real life.

He took my answer. Except I haven't played DoA....

Posted by Garcian Smith on 07/03/2008 at 05:12PM

Posted by cowboynwo on 07/03/2008 at 05:13PM
