Recent leaks of store ads indicate that the Xbox 360 Premium model (20GB) is going to have a price cut from $349 to $299. But an insider source says that this is only part of the story.
Apparently, a new 60GB Xbox 360 model is coming and this will mean the end of the Xbox 20GB version.
According to the stealthy communication:
"At E3 Microsoft will make an official announcement that we are dropping the 20GB pro console to $299... As we launch the 60GB SKU throughout July, the 20GB SKU will DISCONTINUE. You will see the new SKU on your 7/1 price list."
If the rumor is true and more storage is available for the Xbox 360, we wonder if this is all that will be different about the new version of the machine. This would be an incredible time, during E3, to release a more dependable iteration of the Xbox. But if not, a bigger drive will almost certainly mean a higher price for the console.
Microsoft will be holding its press conference a day before E3 begins, so stay tuned for more information.

Crap, now I'm never going to have enough money for a 360. =(
i betcha the 60gb will be 349.99
eh, i bought my elite, 120GB, no worries for me
Same.
Why the hell don't they discontinue that blasted Arcade model and let some devs put some REAL use into those HDDs with their games?! That's the confounding part...
Some devs already do. For example, the Cagney update to Burnout Paradise will include HDD caching of streaming data, if you have a hard drive.
It really is about time that MS did this. If you think about it, they shot themselves in the foot with the 13-GB standard HDD. With all the multi-GB DLC out there, like high-def movies and full Xbox original games, the only way they're going to sell more than one or two items per customer is if they up the size of the drive for cheap.
