Daily Q: What was the worst game you ever played?

Category: Features, Posted: 05/10/2008 at 11:03AM CDT by Frank Ling, Editorial Director

dqLet's face it. We all have gone to the "bargain bin" to fish out some questionable games because they were cheap or on sale. Other times, we make an impulse buy on a game without really knowing too much about it. But regardless, we all have played a game that literally makes our lives less enjoyable and shortened our life spans by a couple of precious hours.

For me, my Alamo for games was IHRA Racing 2 for the PS2 several years ago. Now the strangest part of all of this was that this game was in its second edition. If the second edition was an improvement over the first one, I can only imagine how bad the first one was. Interestingly enough, the game was developed by none other than Bethesda Softworks. I'm glad they dropped racing games and concentrated on little games you might have heard of like Oblivion. But I digress.

Let's just say that calling this title a "videogame" is being very generous. The graphics, (loud guffaw) were as bad as they could be for a PS2 game. The drag racing was boring and the resulting stats on what happened after the race were unreadable because the type was so tiny and fuzzy. Sure you won, but you didn't know why or by how much.

I picked the game up for a paltry few bucks, but even so it wasn't even worth that. The pain this game has caused me has traumatized me so much that I have stopped buying games from the bargain bin for fear of momentarily losing my mind and picking up another stinker like IHRA Racing 2.

What was the worst game you have ever played?

Kid Icarus

Goldeneye Rogue Agent for the gamecube.

Why the hell didn't I bother to go read a review first?

Halo... Just kidding... More of a jab thatn anything... I'm not a fan...

Now the PS2 version of Wipeout was a huge pile of Dung...

I honestly dont know.

Posted by ChristIllusion2 on 05/10/2008 at 12:38PM

ummm thats a really good question lol

FarCry: Vengeance. Can't believe I bought that. Looks like crap, plays horribly, and is clearly just an attempt to make a quick buck off of the stellar FarCry franchise by making a lousy port for the Wii.

Platoon for the NES was pretty bad.

Posted by Oblivion Lotus on 05/10/2008 at 03:00PM

That's a hard one... I always make it a point to know something about a game I want to buy. Impulsively buying a bag of chips is one thing. But impulsively buying a game I know nothing about is not something I allow myself to do. I only buy games I know I'll like. Hasn't failed me yet.
That said, I think I've been able to avoid all the truly horrible games. Go discipline.

I never buy a game without knowing the details of which because I only have few money to do that. However, I regret buying the Harry Porter game series while those extremely fans highly recommended me to buy such a boring one...

Simpsons road rage

That seriously was shit.

Posted by rtanger on 05/10/2008 at 03:59PM

Milon's Secret Castle (Gameboy)

Yuck.

Posted by sig220 on 05/10/2008 at 04:27PM

superman 64

Posted by Cobra951 on 05/10/2008 at 05:29PM

Oh, I loved Simpson's Road Rage.

How about Fantasia for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive? That was the first game I remember hating for how poor it was, during its own time.

Am I allowed to say ET, or is that too easy? Honestly, I have no clue which of the many terrible games that I've played over the years could get the "worst of all time" award.

Posted by ChristIllusion2 on 05/10/2008 at 10:52PM

omg sig220 is so right lol

This is a rough question. I just recently played the Iron Man game so that one is fresh in my mind. ugh, the camera is terrible. But I'm sure i've played something worse.

I think i'm going to say the X-men game for the Sega Game Gear. Yup, i'm going with that.

Posted by lskennedy on 05/11/2008 at 01:49AM

i dug road rage as well.

Posted by The Hylden on 05/11/2008 at 02:36AM

I'm going to have to say: Enter the Matrix

As Yoda said, "Control! Control! You must learn control!!"

That game had the worst...

Posted by The Hylden on 05/11/2008 at 02:37AM

Although, that Superman 64 game was pretty terrible...

Posted by Coyotegrey on 05/11/2008 at 02:45AM

In recent memory? Oh...oh....Iron Man is up there....

Expect the review very, very soon.

Your gonna be surprised... The worst i can think of is Crysis... million dollar armor suits should have more armor then kevlar vests

Posted by Winged One on 05/11/2008 at 07:53AM

After a while, I just got bored of Crysis...Which surprised me.

Hm...I'd have to say the WORST game I played was True Crime: Streets of LA. It was so cheesy, and it criticized me for being late to arrive somewhere when they never actually stated I would be penalized for being tardy. Let's face it, if there's a big flashing circle screaming "NEW OBJECTIVE" while gunshots are fired, would you want to see what the hell is going on or would you just pretend it never happened and continue on to thelocal diner?

The character's were also just God-awful. Hand-to-hand was a bitch. Shooting made me wanna throw my controller through the window. Urgh...

Posted by Tankcommander on 05/11/2008 at 11:21AM

Glover for N64....someone gave some games to us...I played it for about 5 seconds...all I could stand...

Posted by Tankcommander on 05/11/2008 at 11:22AM

And I don't know whats wrong with you guys, Crysis was awesome (except that the suit's armor was junk on Delta difficulty)

Posted by ChristIllusion2 on 05/11/2008 at 12:10PM

glover was cool, that games way easy

Posted by dooganking on 05/11/2008 at 01:18PM

zoocube (i think its a gba title...), got it for a friend as a joke (it was 5 bucks...).
i could also mention that LOTR ripoff of FFX for the xbox (and probably ps2...),
or even LOTR the first edition for SNES...

Posted by ninjalegend on 05/11/2008 at 03:51PM

Superman 64 is too easy. I'm going to go with this little gem called "Headhunter" for the ps2. I picked it up in the used bin for $5. It was scratched, but I bought it anyway. Unfortunately, it worked. I would have been less offended if the clerk at Gamestop threw up in a jewel case, and handed that to me. At least now I know why it was scratched. It was not from someone over playing it. Someone was kind enough to try to save me from the horror.

Posted by Requiem on 05/11/2008 at 08:04PM

Jurassic Park for the SNES

Posted by Shika_Sage on 05/12/2008 at 01:02AM

I have to say I hated Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicals...I played it for a day or two and hated myself afterwards for wasting even that much time...

Posted by HellStaR on 05/12/2008 at 12:12PM

Either Final Fantasy X-2 or Killzone, those games bombed. I just hope Killzone 2 is good.

Posted by walkejad on 05/12/2008 at 02:13PM

Smackdown vs. Raw 2008. It was a huge disappointment.
