MTV, EA and Harmonix have just announced that Rock Band will officially be released for the Wii on June 22, 2008. "The Wii's success among casual and core gamers of all ages makes it an ideal match for the cross-generational appeal of the music featured in Rock Band," said Bob Picunko of MTV. Like the regular package for the 360 and PS3, Rock Band Wii will come with the drum, mic, and guitar for the retail price of $169.99. For those of you who aren't looking for another guitar, the standalone instruments will also be available on the 22nd; no word yet if Boogie's mic will work with Rock Band, saving the unfortunate owners of Boogie even more money.
With six million DLC songs sold online, and with many people rocking out with distant friends, there's no doubt that online play is a big part of the Rock Band experience. There's no word yet on how the online will perform on the Wii, or if there will be any future possibility of DLC. Given the Wii's limited storage capacity, it's very likely that like the PS2 owners, Rock Band owners on the Wii will be forced to stick with what they get. The good news for Wii owners, though, is that Rock Band on the Wii will feature "five exclusive bonus songs." Whether or not they're going to be good songs remains to be seen, but hey, five extra songs is two songs more than the average Rock Band owner has!
