Gordon Kelly of trustedreviews.com says that he has received information from a "rock solid" tipster that indicates Microsoft will be swapping out the 20GB hard drive and replace it with a new 60GB HDD for the Xbox 360.
There's no information on the release date but according to Kelly, plans are in motion to release the new console sometime in the second quarter of the financial year.
If the rumor proves true it will no doubt give Microsoft another shot in the arm to generate more buzz and interest in the 360. While the source says that there will be a larger hard drive for the machine there was no word on the actual console itself--whether it will be a new and more dependable model.
Since the release of the Xbox 360 it has had a difficult time in trying to dodge its image of being an unreliable machine that seems to have a usable lifespan of about a year or less before serious mechanical or electronic problems occur -- resulting in sending in the machine for repairs and putting a gamer's life on hold.
Anyone who is thinking about purchasing the 20GB Xbox 360 should probably hold off and wait to see how this story develops. Although no price has been announced for the 60GB model, hopefully the new unit won't cost too much more than the old 20GB model.
They should cost the same as the 20s for the sake of progress.
I still have 8GB on my 20GB launch model :/
I beat you...I've got 9.3 on mine. I guess unless you're heavily into downloading videos or music, 60GB may seem like overkill...unless Microsoft is planning on games that will need to use the HDD...yup. I bet you that's why.
I download stuff, watch it or play it and then delete it.
I have the 120GB hdd so I'm not even close to filling it up. Especially when you consider I'm just too lazy to delete most of the demos and stuff usually until I notice they're still there.
700 mb left on mine. One of the things I do is keep the demos I like. If I play them more than a few times, and are still interested, it's a buy. That 120 is awesome Brendon. If only I had waited.
Finally a step in the right direction. Now drop those prices and make Live free.
They *have* to do this. They're trying to sell us downloadable games weighing in at 6 GB or so. How can anyone with a 13GB HDD (because that's all a "20GB" HDD really has for you) get those, AND rent multi-GB HD movies, AND buy XBLA games, AND buy hundreds of MB in DLC? They *can't*. I can't. It's money out of Microsoft's pocket to be as stingy as they have been with their HDD space and availability (as in the HDD-less core SKU). It's biting them in the ass, and I'm glad. Maybe the 120GB HDD will drop to a less obscene price now too.
I hope they sell those 60GB HDD individually. I want to get a bigger HDD, but those 120G ones are much too expensive.
