EA Sports planning 5 new franchises by 2011

With the news that EA will retain the NFL gaming license till 2012, folks may be thinking that EA Sports has some mighty plans for sports games during the next few years. The detective work paid off because Shacknews is reporting that EA Sports is prepared to launch five new sports game franchises within the next three years.

Newly appointed EA Sports president (and former Microsoft head-honcho) Peter Moore presented a few of the new planned franchises, including a "casual IP" that'll launch within EA's next fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2008 till March 31, 2009. The new IP was listed alongside FaceBreaker, a cartoony boxing title from Fight Night developers EA Canada.

The other four new franchises will be released by EA's 2011 fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2011. While these four new franchises will be based on EA Sports' "core IP", Moore mentioned that he wants to also focus on unlicensed sports properties and draw more worldwide appeal to its games -- for example, football is primarily big in only the U.S.

Lastly, Moore dropped hints that the next FIFA Soccer and NBA Live games will feature "exciting new innovations," so we'll have to see what he means about that.
