The issues with Xbox Live over the past month or so are finally starting to cool off, and the problems are all but solved. However, Sony it seems has already seen substantial benefits as a result of the lack of competition.
Whether it's because gamers were forced to go elsewhere to get their gaming fix or simply because of the holiday influx of PS3 owners, Sony says that they were surprised by the amount of users who were taking advantage of the free service lately.
"One thing that has surprised us is in the Network purchases and the general level of interest that has been shown around the Network business," SCEE President and CEO David Reeves said to mcvuk.com. He added that the numbers were ahead of Sony's expectations.
"We've gone from zero to almost double-digit millions in terms of what people have purchased in euros," said Reeves.
Now, it should be noted that this is information coming from a UK gaming site, from an interview with the president of the PAL territories. We don't yet know if Sony has seen such large improvements in the Asian and North American territories. Still, Europe is a hugely overlooked territory, and this is another step in what seems to be continuing growth for Sony over Microsoft in Europe.

Europe is SONY territory and it will stay that way until Microsoft stops charging for LIVE and every single piece of hardware / software they can think of (Controller batteries, LIVE, Wireless network module, HD player).
Sony offers all those with the console.
The RRoD, monstrous power brick and noisy drives aren't helping either.
Btw, i have a 360, so i know what i'm talking about.
It's OK vinie you don't have to justify your point of view by saying you have a 360. Everything you've stated is a perfetly acceptable reason for MS to lose in a territory.
