Red Steel 2 on the way for 2008

Category: Wii, Posted: 12/29/2007 at 06:10PM CST by Frank Ling, Editorial Director

red steel 2According to the UK Official Nintendo Magazine, it has been confirmed that Red Steel 2, for the Wii, is in development and is slated for a release date sometime in 2008.

When the Wii debuted in 2006, Ubisoft was one of the first game publishers to publicly voice its support for developing Wii games at a time when other game companies took a "wait and see" approach.

Ubisoft's first foray into the Wii world was with Red Steel, which received mixed reviews and was criticized for its poor controller scheme, which was ironic seeing that the Wii was all about its new motion controllers.

The only real details about the new game are that it will sport, "better controls, better AI, better multiplayer and online play."

The first Red Steel game was a disappointment for many as there were high expectations for the game. Hopefully, with a year's passing, they'll get down the basics correctly the second time around.

Why even bother with this? The IP is worthless thanks to the sour taste left in people's mouths from RS1. The best idea at this point would be to make a new IP that won't have people cringing, then working the good controls. Assuming there are good controls.

I kinda hope the next one will be good yuko. Yeah sue the controls were ass, and i wasnt a big fan of the acting, but hey, it still looked prty good graphically (for the wii mind you), and i mean, every series has a bad game, eventually. just sucks that this one was the first one, but there better be some damn blood in the next one, and moar online play!!

I agree with you both. I bought the craptaular original with the Wii launch and to say it sucked is an understatement. Why do developers continue to make FPS games for the Wii where you have to turn with the Wii remote ( try to beat a game with this setup in a heated firefight, lol)? If they make the controls less daunting where you can move with the Nunchuck and shoot/aim with the Wii remote, maybe it will work. But, obviously people love bad games because Ubisoft sold enough copies to have capital for a sequel (lol). Every shooter should follow The Godfather:Blackhand Edition, those controls were great. Also, Resident Evil:Wii edition utilized these contols with virtually the same setup. The Wii remote should not be utilized to move your character at all, but alot of develpoers force it down your throat in mostly all of the shooters for Wii, just to say they have tailored their game for the Wii.

Jedipoodoo, i agree with you, almost.

Have you played Medal Of Honor Heroes 2? The same set up is used like red steel, you turn with the wiimote, but, its executed properly. And thats why the damn game got good reviews, as well as an AWESOME online. I dig it, alot.

I will give Medal Of Honor Heroes 2 a try. I rented and hated the first one though for the same reasons as Red Steel. It has 32 player multi-play??? Wow, i did not know the Wii server could handle that. I will definitely check this one out from Gamefly, thank you for the recommendation Kennedy.

Personally, I thought the control scheme was great, it's just the aiming that could have used work. The AI, level layouts, story, and graphics could have used work, though.
