As we all know, Metal Gear Solid 4 will be the last Metal Gear Solid game developed by Hideo Kojima and the last game to star Solid Snake. So you can guess that the game is a pretty big deal for MGS fans.
Even though MGS4 will be the final one in the series, the game also represents another dying gaming aspect -- PS3 exclusive games. Reuters gathered some comments from various gaming experts about the subject.
One reason for the lack of PS3 exclusive games is the production costs. Since your release is limited to just one console, it's tougher to turn a profit. But to Ryan Payton, assistant producer on MGS4, you can only experience MGS4 on one platform -- PS3.
"We're telling our fans that if you want to play Metal Gear Solid 4, you have to buy a PS3. The PlayStation brand has always been good to us, and we're pretty bullish on the PS3."
Payton also mentioned an interesting comment; MGS4 needs to sell over a million copies on the first day in order to recoup its production losses. Do you think MGS4 has the fanfare to sell a million copies in its first day? I would imagine it might take a week or two, but in one day?
Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing for Sony, revealed that Sony has 15 of its internal studios working on PlayStation games, in order to boost up its gaming division. In addition, during Sony's current fiscal year (Sept. 2007 to April 2008), there will be just 15 PS3 exclusive games released.
"We understand publishers are needing to recoup their investment. From our perspective, as long as the games aren't going exclusive to other platforms, PS3 gamers are not actually losing anything."

I reakon it could do it easy.
I dont think 1 million will occur in its first day, and i think sony is really losing the footing that they had in the last console war. I think nintendo is gonna climb the mountain and hold strong for the next 2 years, and then sony might come out for the kill.
i still think that within a year of its release, a 360 port will be made because they simply cant make enough money being exclusive
ROFLCOPTER! It aint doing that on the PS3 alone.
easily the most cinematic game of all time, and probably will achieve this within a couple of weeks.
Me loves MGS series and me will buy a ps3 to play this on release :P
That doesn't make sense. Why should it matter if the sales are made on the first day? Maybe he should have said that it needs to sell 1M in the first day in order to recoup its production losses....in a single day.
@Eddie: My thoughts exactly...Once released, there's not a whole lot more $$ put into production costs, So that could take months and they'd still make the same money on it...right?
