According to Take-Two Interactive's recent financial report, Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto IV has been delayed into 2008. Originally planned for a release on October 16th, the delay now puts the game sometime between January and March of 2008.
Unfortunately, this is the news that many people didn't want to hear, considering all the hype and attention GTA IV has been gaining. The main reason of the delay is the necessity of additional development time.
Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar, stated, "The game is huge and is pushing the hardware platforms to their absolute limits. The top engineers from Sony and Microsoft are working closely with the team in Edinburgh right now, helping us to fully leverage the power of both platforms."
In related news, Take-Two announced that Manhunt 2 has been delayed indefinitely. Considering all the controversy surrounding the game, for example Rockstar appealing the ban on Manhunt 2 in the UK, this was an impending action.

i'm actually glad to hear this.....now i'm closer to being able to afford the assload of games coming out at around the same time...and not have to deal with net spoilers.....
I'm not that suprised, but if it means we get a smoother game, then I'm all for it.
Like grega said, now there's one less game to fight my wallet come this Fall.
Maybe they delayed it partially because of the news that MS is making games use the HDD to stream/store/whatever data during gameplay, and they wanted a piece of that action? Doubtful because there is also the PS3 version to take into consideration, but possible nonetheless.
And either way, as long as the game runs well and is bug free (or close to it) when it's released I'll be happy.
Glad to hear both Sony and Microsoft are going out of their way to help out. Which means we should see smooth play on both platforms.
I saw this one coming. Doesn't really bother me that much seeing as a PC release was always slated for 2008. Good too see Rockstar, Microsoft and Sony working together to get the game running well on both systems though
This sucks.
haha I knew it :( The PC release date is even longer then :(
On the bright side, we will actually have a game to play during the wonderful post holiday drought.
Aside from DMC4, that's another game being held back until '08 that I was really looking forward to playing this year.
Oh well. That just leaves more time for me to play Halo 3 : )
