Cybersports announced Football Superstars this past week, an upcoming MMO soccer game (known as football everywhere else in the world). The title will feature matches that can include 3, 5, 7 and 11 players on each team and gamres can control their own soccer superstar that’ll persist in the game world.
In addition, players can join or form their own teams and engage in various leagues, competitions and tournaments. The Football Superstars is expected to launch in spring 2008.
Publisher Red Mile Entertainment announced they’ll be creating a game(s) based on Sin City. Frank Miller, author of the graphic novel series, will be collaborating with the company on the title. No other details were available at the time of this writing.
Phantom EFX and developer 8Monkey Labs announced Darkest of Days, an upcoming FPS that’ll incorporate time travel. The game will take place through various historical battles and will feature 8Monkey Labs’ proprietary Marmoset game engine. Planned battles include World War I and Antietam during the Civil War, among others. A website is up but it’s counting down to the "official" launch.
During their Ubidays event in Paris, it revealed Beowulf , a video game tie-in to the upcoming Robert Zemeckis film of the same name. The game will "re-invent the hack-and-slash genre" according to Executive Director Alain Corre. Zemeckis’ film is coming out in November, so the game may be out by then.
JoWooD announced Gothic 4, the next game in their RPG series this past week but also announced the end of their partnership with Piranha Bytes, who has developed all the Gothic games released to date. Piranha Bytes has undergone a name change and is now called Pluto 13. Gothic 4 will be released for the PC and other consoles.
In expansion news, Microsoft announced the fourth expansion pack to their zoo simulation game Zoo Tycoon 2. Titled Extinct Animals, the expansion will be released this fall. New content includes 30 new animals, more than a dozen dinosaurs and a research lab to clone dinosaurs and tranquilizer guns.
