Details on Resistance 3 have been scant since the game’s big trailer at the Spike Video Game Awards, but Insomniac Games is now revealing the revamped multiplayer mode.
The most notable change is in the overall size and scope. Resistance 3 will allow up to 16 players, a significant downgrade from the enormous 40+ player matches found in Resistance 2. Insomniac claims the new focus is due to how much fun the smaller maps were in the previous game.
There will also be a customizable progression system that allows players to upgrade their character as they see fit. This includes various support and tactical abilities such as ammo beacons and the dash skill.
In addition to this players can select a personal and combat attribute that includes the ability to start with more weapons or fire at a faster rate among other things.
Insomniac also added that a multiplayer beta will be coming to PSN later this year. With the amount of abilities detailed and the new focus on smaller matches, it should be interesting to see how the game is shaping up.
Resistance 3 is scheduled to come out for the PlayStation 3 later this year on September 6.
