New PS3 model coming with larger hard drive?

Microsoft has already announced its intent to release the new Xbox 360 Elite that will have a larger hard disk drive — upgraded from 20GB to 120GB. A slip of the tongue by Sony Tokyo spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka may have indicated that Sony may be thinking along the same lines.

Fukuoka made statements about the recent decision to drop the 20GB Sony model in order to concentrate of the more popular 60GB premium PS3. "It’s in line with our strategy as we had planed to choose models based on consumer needs.” As he continued to speak on the matter, Nikkei reported that Fukuoka said Sony was considering the introduction of another PS3 model with a larger hard drive, but he failed to elaborate on any further details.

If Sony is truly planning on releasing a PS3 model with a larger hard drive, it is assumed that it will be more expensive than the present premium model which now sells for $599. It isn’t inconceivable, however, that perhaps the new model would take the place of the current $599 system, with the 60GB model seeing a price drop.
