BioWare and LucasArts have announced new playable races for the Jedi and Sith classes for their hotly-anticipated MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic on the game’s official website.

The highlight race among them is the Sith Pureblood, the original Sith species that reigned terror upon the Republic in the times of famous Sith Lords Naga Sadow and Marka Ragnos. The red-skinned humanoid race will be playable for anyone who chooses to play as a Sith Warrior.

The other species unveiled for the game feature the Miraluka (Visas Marr) for Jedi Warriors, Mirialans (Luminara Unduli) for Jedi Consulars, and Zabraks (Darth Maul) for Sith Inquisitors. Miraluka are a blind but can see through the Force, Miralans are green-skinned and feature facial tattoos, and Zabraks feature several small horns jutting out from the top of their head.

All of these species are additions to the already announced Rattataki Bounty Hunter (Asajj Ventress), Chiss (Admiral Thrawn) Imperial Agent, and Twi’lek (Aayla Secura) Smuggler. The announcement also stated that there will still be more playable species coming to the game.

"As excited for these playable species as we hope you are, the list is not yet complete," read the announcement. "We look forward to announcing further options in the coming months. We will also have additional details on the species above, so check the Inhabitants section regularly to make sure you get the latest information available."

Star Wars: The Old Republic is set to release in the spring of 2011 for the PC.
