According to Mark Rein, via the official Gears of War forums, the 2006 GOTY contender will be getting a significant update in the very near future.
The most noteworthy portion of the update is the addition of a brand new type of multiplayer contest called Annex. There are no details available yet regarding exactly what this mode will entail, but Rein does go on to say that it may be the most enjoyable gametype yet. Judging from the name, I can only speculate that it will involve territorial expansion of some sort.
In addition to the mysterious Annex, this update will also add 720p for VGA users running at 1280×1024, and will fix some unmentioned glitches (possibly the random loss of guns and ammo in co-op mode… maybe… please?)
In any case, this is shaping up to be a great bonus for Gears players — and to top it all off, the content will be free.
