New AMD 64 FX-60 Dual Core Chip Ups the Speed Ante

You™ll be saying things like, I just love the smell of cooling fans in the morning, when you fire up AMD™s latest dual core processor, the AMD Athlon 64 FX-60. The new chip will replace the AMD single-core Athlon 64 FX-57 as the new king of number crunching in the high-end FX processor series. The super chip will be targeted for PC gamers. At the moment, there are only a handful of PC games that can take advantage of the dual core technology, but games are already in the works that will have multi-core support. So just how fast is the FX-60? Preliminary tests conducted by GameSpot indicate that the new chip is at least 5% speedier than its dual core competitor, the Pentium 955 EE in Quake 4 comparison tests. Now you can frag faster than the other guys. Prices for 1,000 chip lot quantities will set you back a little over $1030 for each chip. A little quick math means you™ll have to scratch up $1,030,000 for the package. Better start saving your lunch money now. But there is good news on the way. The chip is expected to ship in real world quantities, to retail stores, shortly. No MSRP has been announced regarding single chip prices. The demand for the chip is already gaining momentum as computer makers such as Voodoo PC, Alienware and others are offering the FX-60 in special high-end AMD computer configurations.
