Ever since signing with Sony and becoming one of the main first-party developers for the company, NCsoft has been prime buzz-material.
This partnership has changed the company’s entire agenda and CEO of NCsoft’s North America office Robert Garriott chatted with Next Generation about the partnership along with console plans and a new studio.
First, Garriott talked about how Sony totally meshed with NCsoft when it came to partnering up with a capable company. "The ideal system would be an extremely capable, stable platform, with the best Internet connectivity and greatest freedom of web access and interaction available to the user… In this case, we felt like Sony fit the bill."
Next, when talking about a jump to console gaming, Garriott admitted that NCsoft has tried to downplay the attention and remained somewhat quiet about the subject. He did reveal that NCsoft’s first projects with Sony will be released by holiday 2008 and they’ll be original IPs.
"We don’t want to limit ourselves to the PC, especially while the console market continues to grow by leaps and bounds with every new generation… and console markers want to get into the online space."
NCsoft is thinking of opening up a new office somewhere that’ll be dedicated to just console development. The company is certainly growing and hopefully the Auto Assault team can get some work.
