Peter Molyneux and his new studio 22 Cans are asking for £450,000 on Kickstarter in order to create a ‘delightful reinvention’ of the original God game Populous.
Titled GODUS, it is described as an ‘innovative reinvention’ of the classic title that helped launch Molyneux’s career in the industry. It aims to deliver “exciting global co-operation, competition, creation and destruction to a whole new generation.” The GODUS Kickstarter page also acknowledged the heritage of the developer’s involved in the project.
“[GODUS] blends the power, growth and scope of Populous with the detailed construction and multiplayer excitement of Dungeon Keeper and the intuitive interface and technical innovation of Black & White,” read the page.
This is the first game by 22 Cans since the controversial Curiosity: What’s Inside the Cube? It is in development for PC and mobile devices, but 22Cans said it hopes to add additional platforms if the Kickstarter effort progresses well. At the time of writing, GODUS has so far received £49, 647 in pledges by 1,995 backers.
