The man of big claims and unique games, Lionhead Studios bossman Peter Molyneux – the – recently described his current design philosophy when it comes to creating a new product.
In essence, it’s as simple as "quality over quantity." Molyneux said:
"At the moment what I say all the time is LESS features and MORE polish. Lionhead games need less random features, but to refine and hone the core features.
Combat is good example of this; we could have thrown in 100’s of different spells, moves and effects but I now realise it’s better to have fewer really good spells and moves which really work. In other words quality rather than quantity "
Well, that’s as good a philosphy as any, but somehow I would rather see hundreds of different spells that ALL really work. As for extraneous features just thrown in for kicks, I completely agree.
