2K Games announced Mafia 2 today, the sequel to the 2002 game Mafia, which ended up selling over two million copies worldwide. Returning to develop the sequel is Illusion Softworks, which should make all the eager mobster fans happy. Mafia 2 will retail for PC and unspecified consoles at a currently unknown date.
Like the original Mafia title, Mafia 2 will be set during the late 1940s to early 1950s and players will get to trot through the criminal and mobster underworld. Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K, said that Mafia 2 will mirror Hollywood movie experiences.
"The ‘wow’ factor of Mafia 2 is definitely the benchmark-setting visual quality and action that you expect to see only in Hollywood movies."
Below are a few screenshots from the game, which you can also see on the game’s official website. I guess you can scratch one off from the list of franchises that 2K is looking to resurrect. IMHO, Mafia was a heck of a game. Let’s hope M2 will be as good or better.
