Resident Evil series creator Shinji Mikami has revealed that his next game (and first with ZeniMax after their acquisition of Mikami’s studio) will be his last as a director. In a recent interview Mikami stated, "I can only last for so long handling both director and company president duties, and besides, I want to give our younger developers a chance."
Mikami does plan to go out on a high note though. "Knowing that, of course, makes me want to put all of my experience, my energy, and everything else I’ve got into this game. I’m pretty lucky that [ZeniMax] was willing to accept that, too. Too many publishers are only interested in the very near future, after all."
A few games in which Mikami has been credited as director are Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4, and this year’s Vanquish. That’s one impressive track record, so his next project is certainly something to look forward to.
