CVG reports that not only is Nintendo’s Metroid Prime 3 for the Wii a big hit, it has actually surpassed Take Two’s sci-fi thriller, Bioshock, in first week sales.
MP3 is at the top of the heap for sales in the all-format games category with over 400,000 units sold. The immense number of copies sold for the Wii is seen as an indication that "hardcore" games do sell well on the family oriented Wii.
But even more importantly, the success of Metroid Prime 3 validates the Wii as a viable entry against the Xbox 360 and PS3. Although sales figures of the Wii have consistently shown that it outsells the other two machines, doubts have been raised about the Wii just being a "fad" game console which would lose steam over the long haul.
But with Super Mario Galaxy coming right around the corner, Nintendo is looking forward to another bumper crop year and further proof that the Wii is able to stand on its own against the heavy weights from Sony and Microsoft.
