So console folks, are you ready for strategy games? The one genre that PC has kept "exclusive" for decades may finally be shared, according to Sid Meier, founder of Firaxis and creator of Civilization. Meier gives reasons on why console gamers are ready to tackle strategy games.
First, he talks about how the console market warmed up to strategy games and is willing to try them out. "I think the console audience has evolved to where it’s not just hand-eye action game that we’re seeing, there’s a much wider variety of game genres becoming interesting on the consoles," he said.
Case in point? Civilization creator Sid Meier said that they’re shifting their gears to console development. Previously, all Civilization games were exclusive to PC but it looks like Firaxis and Meier are taking a chance with the console market. Civilization: Revolution is heading to Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and DS.
Meier stated, "The console audience is ready to step up to strategy gaming, especially when we can present in a way that looks cool and sounds cool."
Lastly, Meier revealed that they haven’t abandoned PC development — they’re just examining ways to expand their talents along with maintaining an interested audience. "We’re certainly not abandoning the PC, it’s a very important part of our development thinking," he reassured countless breathless PC gamers.
