In news that warms my BioWare RPG fan boy heart, Electronic Arts announced today that the former Xbox 360 exclusive title Mass Effect will be released for PC in May 2008.
EA will take over all current and future publishing duties regarding the Mass Effect franchise, which appears to be the opposite of what was initially reported as a rumor back in December.
The PC edition will feature a few new changes, including customizable controls (thankfully), enhanced visuals and resolution support and a reworked inventory screen; I’ve heard of horrendous problems with the inventory screen for the Xbox 360, such as being too cumbersome and clunky, so to see it be reworked for PC is great to know. Other changes include:
1. Optimized controls designed specifically for the PC.
2. High resolution visuals – Mass Effect for the PC features highly detailed textures, characters and environments.
3. Fully customizable controls – PC gamers can re-map the control scheme any way they like.
4. Run & Gun Control – Players can assign biotic powers or skills to ‘hot keys’ allowing them to play Mass Effect with a heavier focus on action.
5. New decryption mini-game.
6. New inventory screen GUI and functionality – The enhanced inventory system makes it easier for players to equip and modify their weapons and armor.
A few days ago, BioWare reported the first round of Xbox 360 downloadable content for Mass Effect – a new planet and alien race. It’ll head onto Xbox Live on March 10th.
