A huge piece of multiplayer DLC for Mass Effect 3 will add the nefarious Collector’s as a new enemy faction, as well as new classes, new weapons, maps, and challenge point reward system.
Mass Effect 3 has seen three pieces of DLC for the games multiplayer go live, each adding a handful of new classes, and new maps. “Retaliation” looks to be the biggest yet, though.
The DLC will see the Collector’s joining the Reaper’s, Cerberus, and the Geth as enemy factions. The Collector forces, which Sheppard fought during the events of Mass Effect 2, will be made up of the Praetorian, Scion, Abomination, Trooper, and Captain. In addition to the new factions Cerberus will get a new Dragoon class, while the Geth receive a new Drone.
New classes are included in the DLC as well, including the Turian Ghost Infiltrator, Turian Havoc Soldier, Krogan Shaman, and Batarian Brawler. The BioWare Blog promises these classes and more to be added gradually in the future.
Along with the Collector attack comes some fancy new weaponry, namely the Collector versions of the assault rifle, SMG, and sniper rifle.
Six new maps will debut with “Retaliation”, and players will have to contend with hazard versions of already existing maps. The kind of hazards, which can be glimpsed in the DLC trailer, are ‘Acid, Lightning, Meltdowns, Sandstorms, Swarms and Whiteouts.’
Finally, “Retaliation” will see the inclusion of ‘challenge points’ into the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, a kind of in-game achievement system that will reward players emblems, banners, and other aesthetic trinkets for completing goals. Such an example would be scoring 100,000 points with a certain weapon.
The new DLC certainly looks like the most comprehensive piece of multiplayer content added to Mass Effect 3 so far, and as with all previous multilayer DLC, “Retaliation” will be free of charge.
Mass Effect 3: “Retaliation” is available on October 9 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
