Mark Wahlberg, star of the failed Max Payne adaptation who refused to play the source because of his "addictive personality", has been selected to star in the upcoming Uncharted movie. Making the announcement himself in a MTV News interview, he also stated that director David O’Russel plans to start shooting this summer.
The announcement doesn’t confirm Wahlberg for Nathan Drake, but it is heavily implied when Wahlberg announced that O’Russel is trying to get Joe Pesci to play his uncle and Robert De Niro his father in the film.
Wahlberg also states that film will "not be the watered-down version, that’s for sure." This could mean that in a film with a cast like Pesci and De Niro, the film could go from the game’s T rating to an R rating in the theaters.
This announcement now completely trounces fan outcries for Nathan Fillion and Drake voice actor Nolan North to play the role. Combine that with a forty-year-old Wahlberg playing the twenty-something Drake, Pesci and De Niro playing family roles never even mentioned in the source, O’Russel claiming the game didn’t have much there aside from a concept and a name, and sources claiming the film will have something to do with antique dealers in New York, and fans may want to start reaching for that cyanide capsule.
