Is this an answer to all our prayers? Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Amie has announced that Mario Kart for the Wii will be coming to gamers in the first quarter of 2008. It will be the first Mario Kart for a home console to take the race online, and is expected to step everything up a notch from the recent Mario Kart DS.
This time around, battle mode will make its way online, to compliment the racing action. Reggie also hinted that there will be a vast number of racers available – more than ever before. Judging from the video, the game seems to be progressing nicely, with a cool variety of karts and what appears to be fast-paced racing (nightmares of the slow-as-molasses Double Dash haunt me to this day).
A final bonus revealed to the Santa Monica audience is that alongside Mario Kart, Nintendo will be releasing the Wii Wheel – yet another Wii-mote housing peripheral. This one is shaped, – you guessed it – like a wheel, and will hold the Wii remote in a horizontal orientation for all your driving pleasures.
