Mario and Sonic in Perfect Harmony

Nintendo and Sega seem to be growing closer all the time. A recent announcement made by the old rivals revealed plans for a collaborative effort featuring their most prominent mascots, Mario and Sonic.

The game will be entitled Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, and will be developed by Sega Japan. Official licensing from the International Olympic Committee has already been secured via International Sports Multimedia, and Sega president Hisao Oguchi couldn’t be happier.

"For the first time, two of the world’s greatest games’ characters come together to compete in the world’s greatest sporting event and we couldn’t be more excited," said Oguchi.

The focus of the title will be the 2008 Beijing games, and it will include competitions to be held at next year’s event. The game is scheduled for release this holiday season, and will come in both Wii and DS flavors. It will be very interesting to see what sort of innovative controls will be implemented, considering the content of the title.
