Film studio Lionsgate has acquired the screen rights to Eidos Interactive’s upcoming action/third-person game Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, according to a report on Variety.com. Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter will produce the film; the former is producing a film based on the action game Spy Hunter (with Universal) and both are co-producing another Eidos film project, which is based on the action/assassin game Hitman (with 20th Century Fox).
Kane & Lynch the game, which is still under development by IO Interactive, is a third-person action/shooter. The game will feature full co-op gameplay in which players can control either the flawed mercenary Kane, or the medicated psychopath Lynch. After initially meeting while being transported to death row, a former secret-ops team–which Kane worked for–is out to get both men. The game is currently scheduled for a 2007 release date for PC and the Xbox 360.
Last month, SCi Entertainment (owner of Eidos Interactive) released its third fiscal quarter financial results. Touting the continual success of Hitman: Blood Money, IO Interactive may be planning to work on another Hitman game in the future, as well.
