Videogame company Replay Games has obtained the rights to the Leisure Suit Larry franchise, and it has something special planned for the series’ 25th anniversary next year.
The developer’s first order of business will be an updated HD version of the original game, Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards. The game is set to come out on practically every viable platform in 2012, including mobile phones, XBLA, PSN, and Steam.
If the remake ends up being a success, then Replay Games will go on to create remastered HD versions of the remaining six games in the original series.
Leisure Suit Larry creator Al Lowe will be working with the developer on the upcoming projects and expressed his excitement about bringing the adventure game icon back to the masses.
“I’m overjoyed to see Larry released from his digital dungeon after all this time, and be placed in the hands of someone who understands him and wants to see him, brought back to the forefront by people who love him and understand him,” he said.
Lowe and Replay Games also plan to create some new entries in the series, though no specific details were given.
