Kingdom Hearts 3D is a handheld title being developed by Square Enix exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS. In an interview with Famitsu, producer Tetsuya Nomura revealed some new details on the game.
Sora and Riku will both be playable characters, and Nomura is hoping to differentiate the two in terms of gameplay systems. He also went on to reveal that development on the game’s central gameplay systems has been completed, and now it’s just a matter of putting them into the game. Square Enix is also convening on which Disney worlds to use. The plan is to have all new ones this time around.
Perhaps most interesting was Nomura hinting at possible ties to Kingdom Hearts III. He explained that there will be both gameplay and story connections between the two games, and it’s possible that the ending of Kingdom Hearts 3D could lead into Kingdom Hearts III.
At least it’s good to hear something about Kingdom Hearts III considering it’s been over four years since Kingdom Hearts II came out on the PS2. Kingdom Hearts 3D has no set release date yet but more news on that should be coming in the near future.
