Kevin Butler returns in PlayStation's new 'Long Live Play' campaign

Kevin Butler has made his return to PlayStation advertising after a "four-day retirement" to help kickstart Sony’s new "Long Live Play" campaign for all PlayStation properties in a brand new commercial.

The commercial starts off as the old "Dear PlayStation" ads had, but this time Butler is doing them for the company he began working for after his retirement, Economy Flooring. After receiving a phone call from Sony’s Jack Tretton pleading him to return, Butler does so in the only fashion he knows how.

This advertisement will begin Sony’s "Long Live Play", which is "designed to celebrate gamers from all walks of life and recognize you for making us who we are today," according to Sony VP of Product Marketing Scott Steinberg in a post on the US PS Blog.

"PlayStation has always been about the gamer and the PS3 is the ultimate portal to a land of infinite experiences and accomplishments," Steinberg continued. "PlayStation is reaffirming our commitment to gamers like yourselves with ‘Long Live Play’ – mixing humor and a little good, clean fun with the kind of entertainment content you crave."

The new campaign is also advertising the new $249 PS3 package, which will come with sports content such as NFL Sunday Ticket, MLB.TV, and NHL GameCenter.

Steinberg later advised those reading to be on the lookout in the coming weeks, when Sony will be "turning the spotlight back on you," possibly hinting at the direction of future commercials.
