One of the biggest things to come from Sony’s E3 press conference earlier this year was the announcement that a BioShock game is being planned for the PlayStation Vita. Now Irrational Games Creative Director Ken Levine has shared some new information regarding the upcoming title.
In a recent interview, Levine stressed that the game is still in the “paper design stage.” But he also assured fans that this won’t be a portable version of BioShock Infinite or a past entry in the franchise.
“That’s not the current goal for what we’re doing,” he said. “I think for us, the idea we have is a really good expression on a platform like that [Vita]. It’s a different goal. And it has to sort of have its own voice in the franchise.”
Perhaps the biggest obstacle standing in Irrational Games’ way is the amount of manpower needed to work on the Vita project in addition to BioShock Infinite. Levine stated that his company has talked with some “extraordinary people” regarding a possible outsource, but still maintained the need for quality.
“We have a Metacritic average of something like 88 or 89 percent [87.7 percent],” he explained. “And the way you do that is you’re very careful with your bets … we made that bet and now we’re very carefully proceeding to make sure that it’s a game that stands tall within the franchise.”
