Out with the old and in with the new! Or is it out with the new and in with the newer? Whatever the case may be, it appears that Microsoft has plans to update the guts of the Xbox 360 yet again next year.
The Mercury News blog is reporting that a new hardware spec, codenamed Jasper, is scheduled to roll out in August of 2008. This is just one year after the new Falcon chipset made its debut. The Jasper revision will retain the 65nm CPU technology of Falcon, but will also include a 65nm GPU, as well as smaller memory chips.
The new motherboard is expected to further increase Xbox 360 reliability and lifespan by running cooler and with less power draw, not to mention reducing manufacturing costs. Translated into end-user terms, this means fewer overheats and red rings, plus greater chances of future price reductions. Wooooo!
