This is the kind of stuff we love around here. This is from Gamepolitics, where they are reporting that the Florida Supreme Court (re: very powerful people,) are forcing Jack to defend his actions in his numerous attempts to bring down gaming.
Alleging that Mr. Thompson has abused the legal system for his own personal gain, the court could seek legal action against him if he fails to justify himself.
From the statement:
02/19/2008 ORDER-SHOW CAUSE TO: JOHN BRUCE THOMPSON It appears to the Court that you have abused the legal system by submitting numerous frivolous and inappropriate filings in this Court.
Therefore, it is ordered that you shall show cause on or before March 5, 2008, why this Court should not find that you have abused the legal system process and impose upon you a sanction for abusing the legal system, including, but not limited to directing the Clerk of this Court to reject for filing any future pleadings, petitions, motions, letters, documents, or other filings submitted to this Court by you unless signed by a member of The Florida Bar other than yourself.
Kotaku writer Mike Fahey definitely put it best when he said, "this is the legal equivalent of having your parent sign off on your homework." While it may seem like this would be only a speedbump for Thompson as he probably has attorney friends as psychotic as he is, with this type of sanction put on him by the freakin’ Supreme Court of Florida, I highly doubt anybody would be willing to put their career on the line just to help him out.
Nonetheless, Thompson remains eerily optimistic. He seems to think that he is so incredibly right that not only will he prevail, but that the Florida legal system will crumble in the wake of their inaccuracies.
I can imagine Jack saying, "This is the single greatest gift that any court has ever given me in my 31 years of practicing law. I shall now, through a new federal lawsuit, deconstruct The Florida Bar…
Thank you, Supremes! You have given me the weapons I need."
It was kind of a joke before, but I’m really starting to think he might be mentally ill. Wouldn’t that be something if in the end Thompson actually gets the last laugh because the entire gaming world made fun of him for being dumb. Then we all have to feel bad because we just made fun of a mentally challenged guy.
