When someone mentions the iPhone, innovation is the first word that comes into my mind. Never before did we have the capabilities of the internet, email, mp3, movie player on our cellphone with just a touch of a fingertip to access these features. So it wouldn’t be that big of a suprise when we start seeing Apple integrate more and more applications that will no doubt make the purchase of the iPhone worthwhile.
Some new applications that will be featured in the next software update include a GPS system and Mass SMS Texting. If that wasn’t enough, you will now be able to officially buy movies from iTunes in iPhone format and watch it on your phone, for a rental fee. All of these features will no doubt add to the sexyness that the iPhone already possess, but what about gaming? Is gaming in the future of the iPhone, like some recent rumors have suggested?
There are some people already who managed to put Tetris and Mario on their iPhones, but is an official distribution of Apple iPhone based games more than just an idea? At this point in the lifeline of the iPhone, I don’t believe Apple will be making their own games exclusively for the phone. I don’t think this will happen, if it ever does, for a very long time. Now the distribution of casual games is definitely a possibility. With the power to borrow licenses, it would be nice to be able to play arcade games on the iPhone. But what might be the main focus on gaming for Apple would be PopCap like casual games (ie. Peggle. Bejeweled etc.) since these games would benefit from using a touch screen interface.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Apple head down this road in the future, but I don’t think we will ever see people buy an iPhone particularly for the games. Apple is smart enough not to go down the path that the Ngage took. Would you consider buying an iPhone if you were able to buy and play arcade and casual games on it?
