I’ve never been one for the movie-to-game transitions. In fact, I think it’s the worst idea ever, but it’s hard to deny a project that has both Anthony Hopkins and Ray Winstone in it… even if it’s out of their usual venue.
These two industry bad boys are best known for their roles as the terrifying Hannibal Lecter, and tough Mr. French of The Departed, respectively.
As an extension to their upcoming film together, Beowulf, both actors have decided to lend their voices to the Beowulf game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and PSP.
Gabrielle Shrager, writer of Ubisoft’s Beowulf tie-in game, found that the actors’ experience really showed, stating "These actors knew their roles from the movie so they brough another dimension to it. They had the backstory with them. Doing voice acting is not easy. As soon as they saw the text, they rolled back into it."
The Beowulf game features exclusive story content that is unexplored by both the film and the traditional classic story, so this shouldn’t be the typical movie-to-game that rides the rails of predictability.
Let’s hope with the amazing talent of Hopkins, Winstone and Ubisoft, we can finally see a decent movie-to-game.
