Players still remain divided over paying a monthly subscription fee for online games. So to add more fuel to the fire, Flagship Studios announced the European pricing of the subscription portion of their debut RPG, Hellgate: London, today. The subscription is not necessary to enjoy the game online, which you can do for free, but paying the subscription will net you some perks.
The subscription, € 9.99 / £6.99 per month, will include plenty of additional content, including new character classes, areas, monsters, items and raid content, new game modes (Hardcore, Role-Play, PvP), additional character and stash slots, ability to establish guilds and various guild maintaining abilities, in-game email for items, web access to characters and placement in future betas.
Hellgate: London will be free-to-play out of the box too and players can benefit from the online experience by joining all the other players whenever they please. Also freebie players can trade items, join guilds and enjoy plenty of other features (voice chat and buddy lists) out of the box.
So, of course, the question is: Is the subscription worth all those different perks? Traditionally, any subscription-based MMORPG will include all of that, so yes, the price seems justified. But players are still a bit divided since they say that many of those perks should be based in the game without the price. Nonetheless, the European price roughly translates to almost $14 USD, which is just around the standard MMORPG price anyways, but it’s been unofficially confirmed that the USD subscription price would be just $9.99.
Hellgate: London launches in October 31st in U.S. and November 2nd in Europe.
