Flagship Studios announced the formation of Flagship Seattle today, a new studio that will begin work on an online RPG entitled Mythos, which is set for release sometime in 2007. Flagship Seattle is being led by Travis Baldree, who previously worked with Wild Tangent as the Lead Designer on the free-to-play, casual RPG Fate. Mythos will test the networking technology behind the multiplayer component for Flagship Studios’ highly anticipated RPG, Hellgate: London. Mythos will be digitally distributed, with Ping0 publishing it in North America and Europe, while HanbitSoft will publish the title in Asia.
Baldree said, "To be involved in the formation of Flagship Seattle is an honor. We are sure that Mythos will put Flagship Seattle on the map, and in turn will become an integral part of the Flagship Studios experience."
Phil Shenk, Creative Director of Mythos, said, "We were very impressed with the work of Travis from when we were first shown Wild Tangent’s Fate at E3 2005. Both he and the Flagship Seattle team have an exceptional pedigree in games development. Their skills and expertise make them real assets."
This announcement may hint of a delay to Hellgate: London, since Mythos will be testing the network tech behind the game, and it’ll most likely not be shipped beforehand. Nonetheless, if Mythos captures the essence of Fate, i.e. the causal game play, the 3D graphics, its approachable RPG tactics and combines it with online gameplay, then Mythos will be a fine placeholder.
