In a recent interview, Yasuhiro Wada talked about the Wii’s lack of innovative content — that not enough games are truly Wii-specific to drive sales, and that the DS may topple its own big brother.
"Wii Sports is the only game that can be ONLY played on Wii, not on any other console. So future games such as Brain Training on Wii or that type of thing — I don’t think this is such a great idea — as these games are already being played and are very popular on DS… they are not specific to the Wii."
Basically, the solution in Mr. Wada’s eyes is to make even more gesture-based games to really showcase the reason people should be buying Wii systems. Looking at Japanese sales charts reveals that only two Wii games sit among the top 30, and those just happen to be Wii Sports and Wii Play. Maybe Mr. Wada is right.
